RATTANAKOSIN
Bangkok, officially known in Thai as "Krung
Thep Maha Nakhon Amorn Rattanakosin," was established by King Rama I, founder of
the Chakri Dynasty, who decided to move the capital city from the west bank of
Thon Buri to the east bank of the Chao Phraya river, as the City of Thonburi
proved to be too vulnerable to attack. Since the founding of Krung Thep or
Bangkok in 1782, the Chakri dynasty has produced nine kings reigning for 200
years.
